What’s New at Headbonk Games?

At Headbonk Games, we’re always looking to innovate and surprise with unique concepts that bring imagination and strategy to your table. This season, we’re thrilled to announce the release of three exciting games that we’ve also entered into The Game Crafter’s VHS Case Challenge. Here’s a closer look at our latest creations:

Step into the shadowy streets of Neon City, a sprawling metropolis where cyberpunk aesthetics meet hard-boiled detective drama. Neo-Noir is a cyberpunk detective game that combines strategic deduction with fast-paced, high-stakes gameplay. As members of the elite Seraph Six unit, players race to solve complex cases while competing to outwit each other in a gritty, futuristic city.

Gameplay Overview: Players take turns moving across nine unique locations in Neon City, each offering opportunities to gather clues, investigate leads, or hinder rivals. Every action counts as players must:

  1. Move: Roll dice to navigate between locations, each linked to specific clue types and actions.

  2. Gather Clues: Access critical casebook entries tied to the location you land on. These clues are essential for piecing together the crime but can disappear over time due to the "Going Cold" mechanic, creating a constant sense of urgency.

  3. Use Abilities: Each player has a unique character card with single-use special abilities that can turn the tide, from blocking opponents to revealing hidden information.

Dynamic Case System: Each case in Neo-Noir functions like a puzzle, requiring players to identify the perpetrator, motive, and method from the information gathered. Similar to games like Clue or Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective, players must balance exploration and deduction while outpacing their rivals. The randomized placement of clues ensures no two games are alike, offering endless replayability.

High-Stakes Competition: The "Going Cold" mechanic ensures that accessed clues disappear after a certain number of rounds, forcing players into a strategic race against time. Decision-making is critical—do you chase after a disappearing clue or block an opponent from gaining the upper hand? Every move shapes the outcome.

Thematic Immersion: Neo-Noir captures the tension and style of classic noir films and cyberpunk settings. The detailed character cards and intricate case narratives draw players into the shadowy world of Neon City, making every twist and reveal deeply engaging.

Fast-paced, immersive, and packed with strategic challenges, Neo-Noir is perfect for fans of deduction games and cyberpunk storytelling. Whether you’re racing to crack the case or sabotaging your rivals, Neo-Noir offers an unforgettable gaming experience.

Welcome to Voyage, a high-stakes cooperative game of exploration, survival, and ultimate sacrifice.
As the last hope for a dying homeworld, you and your crew must navigate an unpredictable galaxy, gathering vital Resourcium cubes needed to save your planet. But beware—the galaxy is filled with traps, challenges, and a ticking clock that makes every decision critical.

Gameplay Overview: Voyage is played over a series of rounds, with each player managing their ship and crew. On their turn, players will:

  1. Move: Navigate to adjacent tiles, uncovering new parts of the galaxy as you explore.

  2. Scan: Draw from the Scan Deck when landing on Blue or Green tiles, revealing opportunities for resources or encountering deadly events.

  3. Trade: Collaborate with other players on the same tile to exchange an ever-shrinking amount of  crew members or Resourcium cubes—a crucial tactic for surviving the late game.

The game’s modular board evolves as players reveal and place new tiles, creating a unique layout every session. Strategic movement and tile placement are key, as players must ensure they leave viable paths for both exploration and a safe return to the Home Planet.

Wormholes and High-Stakes Exploration: Unique mechanics like wormhole travel add a layer of unpredictability. Players can attempt to traverse the galaxy quickly by rolling to connect revealed wormholes, but failure could leave them "Lost in Space," delaying progress.

The Final Challenge: The ultimate goal is to return to the Home Planet with enough Resourcium cubes to roll a combined score of 70+ using the D20 dice. Each cube allows a single roll, and once used, it’s gone. Fail, and the mission ends in tragedy. For daring crews, a "Last Ditch Effort" mechanic allows players to sacrifice their remaining crew for one final chance, adding a dramatic twist to every game.

With its cooperative dynamics, relentless tension, and a design that challenges even seasoned players, Voyage is a game that thrives on teamwork and calculated risk. The galaxy awaits—but only the boldest explorers will succeed.

Step into Dracula’s haunted ballroom, where every masked guest has a hidden agenda. Dance Macabre is a gothic social deduction game for 3-8 players, combining mystery, deception, and strategy.
At its heart is the unique Incognito Meter, which tracks players’ energy and determines their fate in this deadly masquerade.

Gameplay Overview: Players assume the roles of Tricksters, Monsters, or Spirits, each with their own secret objectives. Victory conditions vary based on roles: Tricksters aim to unmask and eliminate Monsters, Monsters must outwit and overpower their rivals, and Spirits work to achieve their mischief goals while staying hidden.

Turns involve:

  1. Movement: Roll dice to move between locations on the ballroom board, such as the Dance Hall or Laboratory. Each location offers unique actions, from drawing Disguise or Dance Move cards to sabotaging other players.

  2. Taking Actions: Players may perform specific actions tied to their location. For example, the Dining Room allows players to heal or damage others, while the Secret Passage lets you steal valuable cards from rivals.

  3. Dance Battles: Initiate duels to deal damage and weaken other players. Rolling dice determines the damage dealt, adding a layer of chance and strategy to every confrontation.

Ghostly Influence: Even eliminated players remain active as Ghosts, haunting rooms to block access or reviving key cards for their team. This ensures that no one is sidelined, and the game remains dynamic until the final reveal.

Thematic Depth: The gothic setting is brought to life with detailed character roles, such as the charismatic Vampire or the enigmatic Ghost Hunter, each equipped with special abilities and signature moves. The interplay of roles, hidden identities, and shifting alliances creates a rich, suspenseful experience.

Dance Macabre is a must-play for fans of deduction games and gothic horror. Its blend of strategy, storytelling, and continuous player engagement makes it an unforgettable addition to any game night.

Each of these games showcases our commitment to bold ideas and captivating themes, and we’re honored to share them as part of The Game Crafter’s VHS Case Challenge.
